Muriel Rukeyser (1913-80), that great American poet and radical thinker, once said: “The journey is my home”.
What a profound thought on the idea of journeying and evolving! For us, too, our journey has been our home: in motion, learning, absorbing, and sharing everything we have with our esteemed visitors on the fabled backwaters of Alleppey or Alappuzha as it is now called. In return, our visitors have gone back with stories that have shaped or reshaped their lives and come back to us for more.
We began our voyage five years ago with our beloved Leia, a 3-bedroom luxury houseboat who has played host to over a 2000+ guests from almost all walks of life. Everyone who comes here comes with their stories and dreams: we give them a fantasy land to give life to them. So we have also had the creative types — movie directors, actors, musicians, writers, and passionate travellers, who have sought out Leia to visualise, write, and create enduring works while cruising the beautiful backwaters of Muhamma, Alappuzha, and Kumarakom. She seems to have a penchant for the creative souls! Leia has been our sheet anchor. She has now been joined by Tia and the exquisite Jia.
The Boat Company (TBC) is more than tourism. Nestling on the backwaters of Muhamma, a scenic and sylvan town in Kerala’s southern district of Alappuzha, TBC works closely with its environs, to the rhythms and resonances of nature. That has been our founding ideal at TBC. So we give more than we take from our environment to ensure our business is more than just tourism. At TBC, our motto is Nurture Nature, Nurture Our Future.
At TBC, we offer bespoke experiences, cutting through the cliché and clutter of mass backwater houseboat tourism, instead serving up an experience with a difference. At TBC, you are special. You become a stakeholder at TBC, a guardian of nature, and a participant in responsible tourism.
Come to TBC, come to life.
