Environment policy

Environment policy

Over the years, there has been growing concern about the devastating effects of commercial tourism, especially the havoc it has wreaked on nature. When we started out at TBC, we knew that our practices had to necessarily conform not only to the law of the land but also to the laws of nature. The backwater cruise, the centrepiece of our offering, is a carefully curated experience that respects the beauty and sanctity of the backwaters we live off. So we have invested substantially to ensure that none of our activities, either on-board or off-board, damages our ecosystem. From pollution to waste management to water-borne activities, such as fishing or sporting, we are committed to ensuring that neither we nor our guests violate nature in any manner. Ours is an organic relationship with the backwaters.

Plastic Waste

All plastic disposables, including PET water bottles, are stowed away for careful disposal at designated sites or handed over to designated agencies.

Bio-Waste Management

Bio-waste generated on board is stored in bio tanks for safe disposal at designated centres on land. The backwater is sacred space and we make sure it stays thus.

Food Waste

Food waste is also managed scientifically and is carefully stored away for disposal on land at centres earmarked by local authorities. We also do not use any additives or artificial colours or flavours in the food we serve on board, so that it doesn’t harm either humans or nature.

Potable Water

Water for use on board is sourced from a licensed Kerala Water Authority water line installed on the TBC property.

Muhammodayam

Named after Muhamma itself, it is a project aimed at the conservation of the Vembanad Lake ecosystem by developing sustainable livelihoods and management of natural resources in the panchayat with focus on biodiversity conservation. The central idea is to make Muhamma panchayat a more carbon-neutral and eco-friendly place in order to help conserve the Vembanad wetland system. At TBC, we are committed to making our environment safer and cleaner for you and our future. Our boating practices are in line with the sensitivities of the fragile Vembanad ecosystem. Our environmental policy is simple: Work Alongside Nature. At all times.
